This is part of our ongoing series for the upcoming legislative races, spotlighting the different candidates who are appearing on the March 26 ballot.

I’m excited about the special election to be held on March 26, 2022 for State Representative in District 101.  It is an important race.  Our “little red state of Louisiana” needs a strategic policy maker with a strong voice for the people of the state.

I have been serving on the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board since 2016 fighting to get children in struggling schools the resources they need. With the trust of my constituents, I have fought as an independent voice working across the aisle to produce tangible results, some of which includes:

• A $15 million dollar grant for challenged schools to implement unique Creative Sciences and Arts Magnet School programming that is leveraged to benefit all students at Villa Del Rey Elementary, Park Forest Elementary and Middle, and Belair High schools to provide more equitable, high quality educational experiences.
• All flooded schools being fully renovated with Greenbriar Elementary and Belaire Magnet High School receiving additional major facility improvements.
• La Belle Aire Elementary school was chosen by the state to implement Dual Language Programming. 
• Arlington Preparatory Academy receiving a total facility upgrade.

I’ve gotten a bit of a reputation as being “feisty” and “stubborn” because I am the lone woman on the school board fighting against crony corruption, wasteful spending of tax dollars, and big money’s efforts to profiteer off the backs of our children.  But I’ll never stop fighting.

That is why I’m running for State Representative for District 101.

Long before I was an elected official I’ve fought for our community on local, state and national issues like Medicaid Expansion, independent living services for the elderly and disabled, climate change and alternative energy, equal pay for equal work, police brutality and criminal justice reform. 

I can do more as a state representative by continuing to fight for high quality schools for all children while also pushing to remove state level restrictions on cities that want to offer better paying jobs. I can fight for a fairer justice system while leveraging resources to help build up safe and prosperous neighborhoods. I can also work towards community-centered economic development while pushing for more robust infrastructure through mixed mode transit systems and broadband for all.  

I am excited about hitting the ground running on day one, and I have the experience to prove it.
