Louisiana’s Democratic Members of Congress Line Up Behind Jamie Davis Ahead of Senate Runoff

Louisiana’s two Democratic members of Congress are lining up behind Jamie Davis in the final days of the Democratic runoff for U.S. Senate, giving Davis a clear show of party support ahead of Saturday’s election.

U.S. Rep. Troy A. Carter Sr. publicly endorsed Davis this week, posting that Davis is “the voice we need” in Washington and urging voters to support him in the runoff. U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields also placed Davis on his “Cleo Fields Ticket,” a sample ballot-style voter guide aimed at East Baton Rouge Parish voters.

Fields’ voter guide listed Davis as the choice for U.S. Senate, along with support for parish-wide propositions including the library millage continuation, Council on Aging millage renewal, and Recreation and Park Commission millage renewal.

Davis’ campaign highlighted the support from both Carter and Fields, saying he was honored to have the backing of Louisiana’s two Democratic members of Congress.

“When I stepped into this race, I said I wasn’t running for political factions or Washington noise,” Davis wrote. “I’m running for the working families getting crushed by the affordability crisis.”

The endorsements give Davis a significant boost heading into Saturday’s runoff against Gary Crockett. Davis finished first in the May primary but was forced into a runoff after no candidate won the Democratic nomination outright.

It would be easy to treat congressional endorsements as routine party business. In Louisiana Democratic politics, they are not always that simple. Democrats running in tough federal races have often been left to fend for themselves, receiving little more than quiet support, tepid backing, or no meaningful party-wide push at all.

That makes this week’s developments notable. Carter directly endorsing Davis and Fields placing him on his voter guide signal that Louisiana’s two Democratic members of Congress are publicly coalescing around Davis at a moment when visibility and turnout matter most.

It remains to be seen whether either congressman will actively campaign, fundraise, or mobilize voters for Davis beyond the endorsements themselves. But for now, the message is clear: with Election Day approaching, Louisiana’s Democratic congressional delegation is backing Jamie Davis.
