Democratic congressional candidate John Day reported more than $105,000 in new campaign contributions since mid-July, a substantial fundraising increase in his campaign for Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District against Republican incumbent Clay Higgins.
According to newly available Federal Election Commission records, Day’s campaign received $108,899 between July 19 and September 30, bringing its cumulative receipts for the election cycle to $131,996. Of that total, $122,746 came from contributions, nearly all from individual donors.
The latest numbers represent a significant jump from the campaign’s previous financial disclosure, which reported just $23,097 in cumulative receipts through July 18.
Day also entered October with $84,200 in cash on hand, compared with just $7,385 at the end of his previous reporting period.
The campaign reported $47,796 in total expenditures through September 30, including approximately $32,084 spent since July 18. Its financial disclosures also show $7,500 in outstanding debt from loans made by the candidate.
Individual contributions accounted for more than 93% of Day’s cumulative campaign receipts.
Day is one of three Democrats seeking to represent Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District, which stretches across southwest Louisiana and includes Lafayette and Lake Charles. Fellow Democrats Priscilla Gonzalez and Caleb Walker are also competing in the November 3 election, along with Higgins and two other candidates.
Higgins, who has represented the district since 2017, reported approximately $823,000 in cumulative campaign receipts and $595,000 in cash on hand through July 18. His updated third-quarter figures were not yet made available on the FEC’s site at the time of publication.
Still, Day’s latest disclosure represents a marked change in the financial scale of his campaign. With less than three weeks remaining before Election Day, he has substantially increased both his cumulative fundraising and the amount available to spend during the final stretch.
