Supporting independent journalism

Advertising & Sponsorship Policy

The Bayou Progressive is an independent Louisiana news outlet committed to accurate reporting, meaningful political analysis, and accessible journalism.

As we grow, advertising and sponsorships may help support our work, expand our reporting capabilities, and keep our journalism accessible to readers.

We welcome opportunities for responsible advertising partnerships, but our editorial independence is not for sale.

Advertising and Editorial Independence

Advertising and editorial operations are separate at The Bayou Progressive.

The purchase of advertising space, sponsorship of content or events, or any other financial relationship with the outlet does not entitle an advertiser to favorable coverage, influence over editorial decisions, or protection from criticism or scrutiny.

Advertisers cannot determine which stories we pursue, how we report them, whom we interview, or what conclusions our reporting reaches.

Likewise, purchasing advertising does not constitute an endorsement by The Bayou Progressive of an advertiser, its products, services, political positions, or activities.

Our reporting decisions are guided by journalistic considerations and the public interest, regardless of advertising relationships.

Acceptance and Rejection of Advertisements

The Bayou Progressive maintains editorial and business discretion over the advertisements and sponsorships it accepts.

We may decline, request changes to, suspend, or discontinue advertisements that we determine are inconsistent with our publication's standards, audience, mission, or business interests.

In evaluating advertisements, we may consider their content, accuracy, presentation, sponsoring organization, potential impact on readers, and compatibility with our platform.

We may reject advertising that we believe is deceptive, misleading, exploitative, unlawful, or otherwise inappropriate for our publication.

We may also decline advertisements based on our editorial and business judgment, even when the proposed advertisement is otherwise lawful.

All advertising decisions will be made consistent with applicable laws and any binding contractual obligations.

The submission of an advertisement does not guarantee its acceptance, publication, placement, or continued display.

Political Advertising

Given our focus on Louisiana politics and public policy, The Bayou Progressive may receive advertising inquiries from political candidates, campaigns, parties, advocacy organizations, or groups engaged in public policy debates.

We reserve the discretion to determine whether, when, and under what conditions we accept political advertising.

We are not obligated to accept political advertisements from every candidate, party, organization, or viewpoint simply because we have accepted advertising from another.

Political advertisements must comply with applicable election laws, campaign finance requirements, and advertising disclosure rules.

When political advertising is accepted directly, we may require appropriate identification of the sponsoring individual or organization and any legally required disclaimers.

Political advertising does not influence our reporting, our candidate interviews, our political analysis, or our decisions about which races and issues receive coverage.

Advertising Formats and Third-Party Networks

The Bayou Progressive may offer advertising through direct arrangements with advertisers, third-party advertising networks, automated advertising platforms, or a combination of these methods.

Third-party platforms, such as Google AdSense, may select and display advertisements through automated systems according to their own policies and technologies.

Where available, we may use publisher controls to restrict advertising categories, block particular advertisers, or remove inappropriate advertisements.

Because automated advertising services operate independently, we cannot guarantee advance review or approval of every advertisement displayed through those systems.

Readers who encounter advertising they believe is misleading, inappropriate, or inconsistent with our standards are encouraged to contact us.

Advertisements, sponsorships, and paid promotional materials will be distinguished from independent journalism.

We will not knowingly present paid advertising as independently reported news or conceal a commercial arrangement that materially affects the presentation of content.

Any sponsored or advertiser-produced material appearing in an editorial-style format will be clearly identified using labels such as "Advertisement," "Paid Advertisement," or "Sponsored Content."

Sponsored content does not receive the same editorial designation as independently reported journalism.

The Bayou Progressive retains discretion to decline sponsored content or promotional arrangements that could confuse readers about the independence of our reporting.

Sponsorships and Financial Support

The Bayou Progressive may seek financial support through advertising, sponsorships, reader contributions, or other lawful means.

Financial support does not provide editorial authority, preferential treatment, or influence over news coverage.

We may acknowledge advertisers and sponsors publicly, but such acknowledgment should not be interpreted as editorial endorsement.

When a financial relationship is materially relevant to a story, we will address it in accordance with our Editorial Independence & Disclosure Policy.

Contact and Advertising Inquiries

Organizations and individuals interested in advertising or sponsorship opportunities may contact The Bayou Progressive at contact@bayouprogressive.com or through our website's contact page.

All advertising opportunities are subject to availability, review, and acceptance at our discretion.

Our commitment is simple: Advertising may help support our journalism, but it does not determine our journalism.
