Louisiana district court rules EBR school board redistricting map "null and void," violates Louisiana law. School board has until Wednesday to resubmit a legal map, otherwise the Ware-Collins 11-member map goes into effect for November elections.

These are the two maps the EBR school board was vo

These are the two maps the EBR school board was voting between last week.

The first map would keep the board membership at 9 (despite public calls to expand the board) as well as ignore the demographic shifts over the past 10 years that would justify a majority Black school board.

The second map - proposed by board members Evelyn Ware-Jackson & Dawn Chanet Collins, MPA and was the only map with public supporting during Thursday's board meeting - took both into consideration.

On Thursday, April 7, the East Baton Rouge Parish

On Thursday, April 7, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved a 9-member school district map that ignored demographic changes in the Parish and further defied the wishes of the community by refusing to expand the board to 11 members.

The party line - and racial line - vote of 5-4 prompted every Black member of the Council to walk out of the meeting following the vote, along with several community members who were noticeably emotional.
