Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Nick Albares has picked up the sole endorsement of the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO, adding organized labor support to his campaign as he works to build early momentum in Louisiana’s U.S. Senate race.

The endorsement was announced Monday and gives Albares a notable regional labor backing as candidates continue jockeying for position in what is expected to be one of the state’s most closely watched contests. While not a statewide federation endorsement, support from the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO still carries weight, particularly in a Democratic coalition where labor support can help signal credibility with working-class voters and institutional allies.

In a social media post announcing the endorsement, Albares framed the backing as a reflection of both his professional background and his campaign message.

“I’ve spent my professional life making government work for people, connecting policy to real-world results so families can access reliable healthcare, stable housing, and support services when they need them most,” Albares wrote. “I’m proud to accept the sole endorsement of the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO for the U.S. Senate.”

The endorsement adds to Albares’ effort to define himself as a candidate focused on the material concerns of everyday Louisianans rather than the performative politics that too often dominate statewide campaigns. In his announcement, he emphasized healthcare, housing, and support services, all areas that speak to a bread-and-butter message aimed at voters who feel locked out of economic stability.

That matters in a Louisiana political environment where candidates from both parties routinely talk about “families” and “opportunity” in vague, interchangeable language. Labor endorsements do not guarantee traction on their own, but they do help separate candidates who can point to actual institutional support from those still trying to introduce themselves to voters.

For Albares, the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO endorsement offers an early sign that at least part of organized labor sees his candidacy as aligned with the interests of workers across the state.

Albares is one of three Democrats seeking the party’s nomination for U.S. Senate in the May 16 Democratic primary, which also includes Gary Crockett and Jamie Davis.
